Built for the media streaming forgets.
What Bitz Is
Bitz is a free desktop application for Mac, Windows, and Linux that connects to multiple peer-to-peer file sharing networks simultaneously. Search Soulseek, BitTorrent, and more from one unified interface, share your personal library with the network, and keep everything you download locally on your own machine. No subscriptions, no cloud account required, no credit cards.
Why We Built It
Streaming services come and go, and albums or films are frequently pulled from platforms without warning. Out-of-print books vanish. Rare films disappear. We built Bitz to ensure your access to culture remains permanent, private, and entirely under your control. Soulseek has the rare music and the serious collectors. BitTorrent has the large swarms and the wide availability. No single client searched both — until Bitz.
The Vision
Bitz searches multiple peer-to-peer networks simultaneously — Soulseek, BitTorrent, and more — and ties them together so files don't disappear when the one person sharing them goes offline. Every download quietly becomes a new source for that file. The goal is a distributed archive of human culture that no single company controls and no single server can delete.
How Bitz Keeps Rare Files Alive
Most sharing networks work well as long as enough people have a file and are sharing it. But rare files — obscure albums, old films, out-of-print books — often have only one or two people sharing them. If those people go offline, the file disappears from the network. Forever. Bitz was built to fight that.
Every download becomes a new source
Every time you download something through Bitz, the app quietly makes that file available as a torrent on the BitTorrent network. A rare album that only one person was sharing on Soulseek suddenly has two sources, then five, then twenty — each one a safety net if others go offline.
BitTorrent is the most resilient network ever built
Files shared as torrents don't rely on any single person staying online. As long as at least one person anywhere in the world has the file and Bitz running, it stays alive and discoverable.
Files submitted to public indexes
When a file gets bridged into BitTorrent, Bitz can submit the magnet link to public torrent indexes. The file becomes discoverable by anyone — not just Bitz users — preserving it far beyond the original network.
The Wishlist keeps demand visible
When thousands of people have the same item on their Wishlist, it signals to the community that something is worth preserving and prioritizes it for automatic seeding.
Every person using Bitz is contributing to a distributed archive of human culture that no single company controls and no single server can delete. The more people use Bitz, the harder it becomes for any file to disappear permanently.
